Announcements

The adult class meets each Sunday morning 9:45a.m. - 10:30a.m.   The topic of each study will be announced.

Currently we are studying The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination with scriptural proofs; a Calvinistic doctrine on which the Presbyterian Church has its roots.

The study is based on a book by the same name by Dr. Loraine Boettner, a Presbyterian theologian and seminary professor.

We invite you to study with us each week to learn more of what it means to be a Presbyterian.  Kemper Bausell is currently our class facilatator.

Our Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group is held each Wednesday morning at l0am. Come and enhance your devotional life!  Coffee, tea and donuts are served before we begin our lesson. On August 11, we began a new study titled "Why Am I Here?". The study will follow Solomon's pattern of discussing the dead-end answers before revealing the route to true fulfillment.  We are concentrating on the books of 1st Kings and Ecclesiastes. We are totally amazed about the similarities between our present day situations and the ones we study from the bible.  Study books are on the table in the Angel Room. Go by and pick up a study book even if you can't come to the group. We love to share these with everyone.  This is a Bible based study.

Year-Round Mission

Our year-round mission project of providing items for the domestic violence shelter continues as we assist in providing cleaning items, including liquid Tide detergent HE, fabric softeners, dish detergent, Lysol cleaner and soaps. If you wish, you can also provide non-perishable food items, such as soups, Vienna sausage, crackers, etc. There is a box in the narthex to leave the items, or you can bring them by the office when Charlotte is in the church office.

The date for the monthly fellowship for September had not been set by the deadline for the newsletter. As soon as the hostesses set the date, we will announce it in the bulletin. Hostesses for this month are Sandy McGlothlin, Sandy Dailey, Kaye Keen, Juanita Coleman, Phyllis Sumrall, and co-chairs Banna Bevins and Carol Chambers.

Presbyterian Women News:

A new study year will begin in September for our Presbyterian Women. The first meeting of the new year will be Sunday, September 12, at 6 pm. We usually meet the first Sunday of the month, but changed this meeting due to the Labor Day holiday. Judy Osborne has agreed to the role of moderator of our PW. but she stresses that everyone needs to help to continue the success of the work of our women. Several items are on the agenda to be discussed, including deciding if there is another day and/or time that would be better suited to meet. We also need to work on the hostess lists as there have been several changes. Ladies, please note this date and time and plan to attend. The Bible Study for this year is titled "Journeys Through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today".

Other officers for the PW, in addition to Judy as moderator, include: Kaye Keen, Comoderator; Cindy Matney, Secretary; Banna Bevins, Treasurer; Jennifer Parish, chair of Justice and Peace; Jessie Hunt, Historian; Connie Bausell, chair of Spiritual Growth; Denys Marcum, chair of Mission Opportunities; and Phyllis Sumrall, chair of Search.

The PW's year-round mission project continues as we assist in providing items for the domestic violence shelter. Cleaning items, such as liquid Tide detergent HE, fabric softeners, dish detergent, lysol cleaner and soaps are always needed at the shelter. If you wish, you can also provide non-perishable food items, such as soups, Vienna sausage, crackers, etc. There is a box in the narthex to leave the items, or you can bring them by the office when Charlotte is there.

Nursery volunteers: please note your date to help in the nursery; this is posted on the list outside the office door. If you can't be here for your Sunday, be sure to exchange with someone so we can have a person available for the nursery. Our list is now down to four volunteers as we have had to remove some people due to illness and moving away.

 The Buchanan First Coffee Club

The Buchanan First Coffee Club meets the 2nd Monday of each month at l0am. The mission of this group is to send cards to those in need of spiritual uplifting and joy! Our September meeting will be held on the 13th Bring names and addresses for those in need of cards.

 Marian's Book Club

Marian's Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 28, at 4 pm in the Angel room. If you have suggestions for the upcoming year's book selections, bring your list with you.  Kaye Keen has graciously bought some examples of possible books for us to consider.  Also, remember we have several books on CD for check-out in our Ladies Parlor.  These audio books were donated by Dave Shanahan in memory of Marian who loved books and whose name we proudly display as our club's name.  We give our undying love and gratitude to your memory, Marian!
