Bible Study Opportunities
Bible study opportunities are and should be abundant in our church. Being a community of faith, we seek the fellowship of other Christians to read, discuss, explore and learn our Lord's Word. The following are a few offerings for you to join. If you have further recommendations, please feel free to share them!
Sunday School: The adult class meets each Sunday morning 9:45a.m. - 10:30a.m. The topic of each study will be announced. Currently we are studying The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination with scriptural proofs; a Calvinistic doctrine on which the Presbyterian Church has its roots. The study is based on a book by the same name by Dr. Loraine Boettner, a Presbyterian theologian and seminary professor. We invite you to study with us each week to learn more of what it means to be a Presbyterian.
Special Wednesday Evening Studies:
We have participated in special study groups on Wednesday evenings. We share a meal and continue with Bible study as well as group discussions. Presbyterian Women Presbyterian Women meet once a month (first Sunday at 6:00pm). We not only conduct a business meeting, but also have an in depth Bible lesson. Refreshments are also included! Sometimes we elect to do a special treat for ourselves, such as, the Christmas meeting. We met at the home of Kaye Keen this year and thoroughly enjoyed wonderful food, beautiful decorations, ornament exchange, fellowship with our friends and lots of laughter! A special treat was given to us by a great lady named Elsa Tesfa. Elsa comes from East Africa and her mother language is Italian. She sang The Magnificat (Song of Mary) for us in Italian. This beautiful rendition brought not only smiles to our faces but also tears in our eyes. The following explains the song: The Magnificat (Latin, "magnify") — also known as the Song of Mary — is a canticle frequently sung (or spoken) liturgically in Christian church services. The text of the canticle is taken directly from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46-55) where it is spoken by the Virgin Mary upon the occasion of her Visitation to her cousin Elizabeth. In the narrative, after Mary greets Elizabeth, who is pregnant with the future John the Baptist, the child moves within Elizabeth's womb. When Elizabeth praises Mary for her faith, Mary sings the Magnificat in response. Words of the Magnificat: The Magnificat My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; for He has looked with favor on His lowly servant From this day all generations shall call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation. He has shown the strength of His arm, He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has come to the help of His servant Israel for He has remembered His promise of mercy, the promise He made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever. Amen <><><><><><><><>
Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group Our Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group is held Wednesday mornings at l0am. Come and enhance your devotional life! Coffee, tea and donuts are served before we begin our lesson. On August 11, we began a new study titled "Why Am I Here?" The study will follow Solomon's pattern of discussing the dead-end answers before revealing the route to true fulfillment. We are concentrating on the books of 1st Kings and Ecclesiastes. Study books are on the table in the Angel Room. Go by and pick up a study book even if you can't come to the group. We love to share these with everyone. This is a Bible based study.
